Relative Contraindications of Steroid Injection

Beware the mechanical cause of intermittent recurrent pain for example in the knee:

  1. Meniscal tear

  2. Synovial tag (Hoffa's fat pad syndrome)

The video clip below of keyhole syrgery on the knee demonstrates the damage caused by a synovial tag above the anterior horn of the medial meniscus.  These are often not demonstrated on MRI but can be a devastating cause of painful degenerative change in the knee.
