Aspiration and injection of the trochanteric bursa is possible though a difficult technique to master.  Get an Orthopaedic Surgeon to demonstrate it to you.  Aspiration and injection of the deeper hip joint should be undertake in theatre using an image intensifier and sterile technique as it it is such a deep joint.

An aspiration and injection of the right hip joint using image intensification and radiographic contrast medium to demonstrate access to the hip joint prior to injection of local anaesthetic and cortisone. This is not possible in clinic.
