Mr Ian Winson MB ChB, FRCS
Curriculum Vitae
Mr Winson is a NHS Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital, Bristol BS4 5NB and at Frenchay Hospital Bristol. Mr Winson specialises in foot and ankle surgery, knee surgery and Sports Injuries. He is the President of the European Foot and Ankle Society and a past President of the British Orthopaedic Foot Surgery Society. He is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, a member of the Council of the European Foot and Ankle Society, an International member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and a Member of the International Foot and Ankle Society.

Medico-legal Experience
Mr Winson only undertakes medico-legal expert witness work related to foot and ankle problems.
Research Interests and Publications
Mr Winson continues to publish research and articles on current aspect Orthopaedic Practice. His research interests include clinical foot and ankle research, biomechanics of the foot, ankle arthritis, ankle arthroscopy, forefoot reconstruction and foot outcome measures. Clinical Experience
Mr Winson has had a broad training and wide experience in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery. His speciality interests are in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Knee Surgery and Sports Surgery. During the last ten years he has looked after the players from all of the major sports clubs of Bristol and the surrounding area. Mr Winson is an Orthopaedic Advisor to the Bristol Rugby Team and to Bristol City Football club. He advises the England Cricket Squad on foot and ankle injuries. He has treated a wide range of sports stars from rugby, football, cricket and athletics. Mr Winson is consulted by foot and ankle surgeons from many nations about thier patients and he runs a tertiary referral practice in foot and ankle surgery attracting national and international patients. He was awarded The Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in 1989 and is therefore listed in the General Medical Council Specialist Register.
Peer Review Audit
Mr Winson is involved in the systematic critical analysis of his own and his colleagues' standards of medical care as required by the Department of Health. He has constructed a database of over 3,500 cases of foot and ankle surgery. The audit activity his team undertakes looks at all aspects of treatment regimes including those involved in conservative measures, surgical techniques and post operative care.
Teaching
As the past Regional Director of Orthopaedic Training Mr Winson was responsible for the postgraduate Orthopaedic Training Program in Avon, Somerset and Gloucestershire. He tutors medical students, physiotherapists and nursing staff. He has served on the British Orthopaedic Associations Education Committee, the Education committee of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the Education committee of the European foot and Ankle Society. He has taught on a wide range of courses both nationally and internationally.
