Mr Tim Chesser MB BS, FRCS(Eng), FRCS( Trauma and Orthopaedics)

Curriculum Vitae

Mr Chesser is a NHS Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in the North Bristol NHS Trust. He works in the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital, and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. At North Bristol he has the honor of being the Specialty director of Trauma. He specialises in pelvic, hip,  knee surgery,  sports injuries and all aspects of trauma surgery.

He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Trauma Society and British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma Association.

Medico-legal Experience

His Medico-Legal Reports are prepared to the guidelines introduced by the Law Society and the British Orthopaedic Association and conform to Lord Woolf's reforms. Mr Chesser acts equally without bias for plaintiffs and defendants. He is a recognised specialist in pelvic, acetabular and complex trauma cases.

Research Interests and Publications

Mr Chesser continues to publish and present research and articles on current Orthopaedic Practice. He publishes in peer reviewed journals and his research interests include biomaterials, biomechanics of fracture fixation, outcome after injury and the requirement for medical services at motor racing circuits. He is an invited lecturer in national and international orthopaedic meetings.  He has co-chaired meetings in the UK Europe and China. He is a recognised internationally as an expert in locking plate technology.  Mr Chesser has been involved in the multicentre randomised control cohort trials with other major centres in the UK.  Mr Chesser is a founder member of the "Foundation of Trauma (UK) which is a body responsible for educating other Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeons in trauma care. He is also a founder member of the "Trauma Orthopaedic Research Collaborative" set up to further our understanding of the treatment of trauma. He is current involved in the design testing and implementation of Orthopaedic and Trauma devices. Mr Chesser continues to publish research and articles on current Orthopaedic Practice. Clinical Experience

Mr Chesser has had a broad training and wide experience in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery. He underwent basic surgical training in London and Oxford, and specialist training in Bristol. He has been awarded The Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and is therefore privileged to be listed in the General Medical Council Specialist Register. He has a major interest in sports trauma and is a recognised Course Director in the Advanced Trauma Life Support scheme. He works as a motor racing doctor at the British and Australian Formula One Grand Prix, as well as at UK racing circuits and the Circuit of Ireland Rally. He has performed research on the requirements for medical care at sporting events and instructs on specialist courses teaching doctors from Grand Prix circuits and the Badminton Horse trials.

He undertook a fellowship in Brisbane, Australia where he gained experience in trauma, sports injuries and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery. He was also awarded a sought-after fellowship to visit centres of excellence in the United States to develop skills in pelvic and trauma surgery.

Peer Review Audit

Mr Chesser is involved in the systematic critical analysis of his own and his colleagues' standards of medical care at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol as required by the Department of Health.

Teaching

Mr Chesser works in a teaching hospital and is, therefore, responsible for tutoring medical students, physiotherapists and nursing staff. He has run weekend courses for Osteopaths and lectures on Orthopaedic courses both nationally and internationally.
