Mr Tony Ward BM BS, BMed Sci, FRCS

Curriculum Vitae

Mr Ward is a NHS Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in the North Bristol NHS Trust.  He works in the BUPA Hospital Bristol, St Mary's Hospital, Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital, and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. Mr Ward is a Hip Surgeon specialising in hip, lower limb reconstruction and sports injuries. He is one of the UK's experts in keyhole surgery of the hip.

Affiliations

Mr Ward is immediate past Clinical Director of the Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at the North Bristol NHS Trust one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country. Mr Ward is the director of the Internationally renowned Pelvic and Acetabular Reconstruction Unit which receives referrals of patients from all over the world. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association.

Mr Ward does not undertake medico-legal expert witness work.

Research Interests and Publications

Mr Ward has published in peer reviewed journals and his research interests include fracture fixation and the management of ankle injury. Mr Ward continues to publish research and articles on current Orthopaedic Practice. For a list of publications click Ward's Publications

Clinical Experience

Mr Ward has had a broad training and wide experience in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery. He underwent basic surgical training in London, and specialist training in Bristol. He has been awarded The Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and is therefore privileged to be listed in the General Medical Council Specialist Register. He has a major interest in sports trauma and Mr Ward has a particular interest in pelvic and acetabular reconstruction, hip replacement surgery, minimally invasive surgery, keyhole surgery of the hip and knee and the latest techniques in surface replacement of the hip

Peer Review Audit

Mr Ward is involved in the systematic critical analysis of his own and his colleagues' standards of medical care as required by the Department of Health.

Teaching

Mr Ward works in a teaching hospital and is, therefore, responsible for tutoring medical students, physiotherapists and nursing staff.
